What’s The Point?
Have you noticed that Jesus never said anything like that? Take a minute to read the parable in Luke 8:4-15.

What’s The Point?
Jesus took time out, one day, to teach a Parable to a large crowd of people. That story, the Parable of the Sower, is His most beloved parable. So, what is it about and what does it mean? It’s about a farmer planting seed, but we know it’s about more than that. Jesus is teaching us about God and His Word.
Jesus came to solve The Big Problem: we are lost and we need God. God knows this and has reached out to us with His Word. Jesus described His Word like a farmer casting his seed on the soil. The Word needs to take root, grow and be productive.
This is where the message comes home. The whole point of the story is this: what have YOU done with the seed God planted in YOU?
I know what you are thinking. You’re thinking, “I’m not the bad soil. I’m the good soil. I believe in God, I read my Bible and I go to church. I’m a believer! I’m good.”
Have you noticed that Jesus never said anything like that? Take a minute to read the parable in Luke 8:4-15.
Pay special attention to verse 8. If you are like me, you thought that being a good Christian was just doing all the right stuff, believing all the right things and saying all the right words. It turns out that’s not it.
According to Jesus, the thing that makes us good soil has nothing to do with any of that. What He’s getting at is this: Have we produced fruit with the seed that He has planted in us? How have we multiplied God’s Kingdom?
Good soil produces fruit. Are you sharing the Word? Telling others of Jesus? Are you living a life that displays Christ by your actions?
There is a lot of dirt out there that looks, feels and smells like great soil. But, there are acres of good soil where I’ve never seen any fruit grow. In the end, that’s just another fallow field full of dirt.
Jesus is challenging you with this story. Don’t just be a lump of dirt. Tell somebody what God has done for you. That’s how soil becomes productive; by growing and sharing what you have found with others.
Mark 16:20
“Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them.”
