What The World Needs Now

I have spent countless hours working with men and women who wanted to get their lives back on track. Many of them were people who just needed a break in life. I’ve also seen my share of people who had no intention of making any effort to turn their lives into something. They just wanted short cuts and quick fixes.

There’s no magic wand that can turn a person into a better person. What we do have, though, is God's promise that if we have Christ in us and we listen to Him, trying to do things His way, He will help us succeed. That means taking God seriously, seeking what He wants and working on our relationship with Him.

Deuteronomy 28:1-14 is a detailed proclamation of God's promises to His people. He blesses those who put Him first and live life the way it’s designed to work.

2 Chronicles 7:14

"If My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

Can we see in that the implications for a nation that is struggling to get its act together? Nations have to recover after a setback, just like people do. We, as a nation, are in the thick of one of those struggles. So, what are we missing in our journey to peace and recovery?

We have forgotten God.

We have turned from being a country that sought to bring Him glory to one that opposes Him. That’s not good.

How do we get that back? It requires us turning to God, calling on Him and walking with Him. That means living our lives the way God says and doing things the way He wants. Not just in our own lives but in our homes, our jobs, our city councils, our state and county governments and in Washington.

We need to be a country where life is lived on His terms, not ours. He made us and He knows how we work best. If we seek to put God first, He will bless us for it. His blessing is the missing piece of our puzzle.

Matthew 6:33

“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
