True Rest

We allow our lives to become so burdened with not only tasks, but thoughts and worries. Mental work can often be just as taxing to our strength as physical labor. The things that we are very concerned about are the things that Jesus wants to share with us.

The Acts Of Worship - Remember (Part 3 of 3)

1 Chronicles 16:12

“Remember His covenant…”

In many synagogues there is a cabinet, of sorts, where the Holy Scriptures are kept. Many if these scriptures are in the form of scrolls that are removed to be read during the time of worship. Before the attendant opens that cabinet, he is faced with a powerful statement that is displayed on the doors.

Da lifnei mi attah omed

That is Hebrew and it means. "Know before whom you stand." Those words are a powerful reminder of what we are doing and who our God is. It is the call to remember the covenant God has made with His people and the extraordinary importance and power of God’s Word.

In some ways, it overlooks the fact that we live in the presence of God. We should always be mindful of who He is and what that means. But, there is more to it than that. The truth is that our posture before God should always be in reverence and humbleness. Our proper posture should be kneeling or prostrate before Him. But this reminds us to stand.

You see, we live lives among other people and we do things every day that require us to get up and go live life. It’s easy to remember Gods when we are kneeling in worship in His house. But, what about when we are His face and His feet and hands to the world around us?

That’s when it’s hardest to remember His glory and His holiness but that is when it is most important to do exactly that. We are the only face of God that most people will ever see. When we stand to go into the world, when we walk out of the church or when we stand in the place God has placed us, remember before whom you stand. He is the One who can save those who are watching you. Remember His covenant to save. That is the Good News which we are charged with bringing to the world.

Isaiah 49:15-16

“Even these may forget, but I will not forget you. Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; Your walls are continually before Me.”
