Think About This (By Tim Klink of Prison Discipleship Ministry)
Genesis 1:1
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
I enjoy reading through Genesis 1 and let my mind dwell on God’s creation in the beginning. As I read through the various elements that God spoke into being, one thing that impresses me is that it is all still here just as God created it. I can stomp my foot on the ground and feel that it is still here. I can look into the night sky and behold the countless numbers of stars, and see that they are still there just as God created and placed them. Every time I need to mow my grass or rake leaves, I am assured that what God created is still very much in its place as He made them.
As my wife and I are eating breakfast and looking at the birds at the bird feeder I am amazed at the diversity of God’s creation. He didn’t make just one “winged fowl,” He created countless numbers of different species.
The California condor has a wing span of 9.5’, and the other end of the spectrum can be the Bee Hummingbird who is only 2 ½ inches long and weighs less than one ounce. While the condor doesn’t flap it’s wings much since it majestically rides the thermals, the bee hummingbird’s wings flap 80 times per second. That’s how God created them, and they function perfectly within God’s purpose.
I also read in this beautiful chapter that God created the “creeping things” upon the earth. These are bugs. I personally cannot figure out why He made the mosquito, but I’m certain He has a purpose. While bugs are annoying, they are also fascinating in their structure. Consider the gnat that you swat and can never get. All of the moving and functioning parts to that little thing work perfectly, even the tiny chuckle they give every time you miss them.
I said all of that to get you to consider the God who created all of those things, and keeps them functioning with just His Word. Why is it that when we have a difficulty, or when we are confused, we turn from Him instead of trusting Him? The same God who did all of that is the same God who loves you unconditionally.
Trust Him!
