The Word Is In My Heart
As I drove past a stand of trees, I looked to my right and saw a beautiful red barn sitting behind a two story farmhouse. It had a matching pair of cupolas on top and sat on a slight rise looking to the west. I hit the brakes and stared out the window. I didn’t expect to see that here!
I pulled in the driveway and walked to the house and found an older gentleman sitting on the back porch. As I introduced myself I could see immediately that he was blind.
The barn was built in 1896 and he had lived there since he was seven years old. Although he was blind now, as he talked about the barn he would point at it is if he could still see it.
He knew every piece of timber in that barn. He knew where the loose pins were, and he knew where the gaps in the boards were. He could still picture it in his mind. He was so familiar with it that it was a part of who he was. It had been a part of his life every day for decades.
Many centuries ago, invading armies tried to control the cities in North Africa where Christianity flourished. They defeated them on the battlefield, but the Christians had beliefs and ideas that they could not conquer.
In an attempt to quiet the church they took away the scriptures that meant so much to them. They burned every scroll but, they were unable to silence the Christians. The people of those churches loved their Bibles. Gods Word meant so much to them that those pages were engrained in their minds and hearts.
They knew every word, every verse, every chapter. Although they no longer had a physical copy, they would gather together and the church leaders would tell the people what was in those scrolls. It was a lot like a blind man describing his family barn to someone.
You see, God's Word lives in the hearts of His people, not on a piece of paper.
Romans 10:8
“The Word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”
Ask yourself, if someone were to take away your Bible, would you be hopelessly lost? If so, you are not spending enough time in His Word. Take advantage of the great opportunity given to you while you still have it. It’s in your hands... now, put it in your heart.
