The Names Of Jesus - “Wisdom”

1 Corinthians 1:23-24

“But we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the Power of God and the wisdom of God.”

If I could ask God for one thing, I would like to have great wisdom. Wisdom is a quality that is sought after by men and women all over the world. The book of Proverbs tells us that we should seek wisdom above all else.

In the Bible, there are two types of wisdom. God’s wisdom and man's wisdom. One gives life but the other, death.

Romans 5:15 tells us that through man's wisdom that we inherited sin and death. That happened when Adam and Eve first sinned. Now, every human that is born enters as a sinner into a sinful world. Through sin comes separation from God and death.

Jesus came to give us another chance. Through God’s Wisdom we are given the gift of life and righteousness. Jesus came to make your life better:

John 10:10

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly."

How do we experience that abundant life? We have to abandon the earthly wisdom that keeps us mired down in our sin and our self-love. The wisdom of the world says to take care of yourself first but God says to love Him first and put others’ needs before our own.

The wisdom of the world says, “If it feels good, do it.” God’s Wisdom says that you must deny some things and follow Him.

James encourages us to ask God for His Wisdom. Because Jesus is Wisdom, He can share freely and to everyone. James says:

James 1:5

"But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him."

Open your heart to Jesus and He will open your eyes to the abundant life and True Wisdom! That comes only through Jesus and by loving God more than anything else. By making Him the center of our lives we become fully human and we are blessed by Him.
