At the beginning of the Bible there are five books that are known as the Books of Moses. At their end, Moses is about to die and pass his mantle on to Joshua.
Before he goes, he addresses the people and gives them his parting advice, revealing what he has learned from a long life of a personal knowledge of God. In an unexpected moment of insight and truth, he reveals the secret to a personal understanding of God. This is how Moses thinks of Him:
Deuteronomy 32:2-4
“Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants. I will proclaim the name of the Lord. Oh, praise the greatness of our God! He is the Rock.”
God is The Rock to Moses. Moses knew Him and heard His voice and spoke with Him. Is there any more sure and certain picture of who God is? He is unshakable ... always stable ... never moving from where He stands. He is Our Rock. King David calls Him “My Rock and My Fortress.”
The book of James tells us that with God there is no variation or “shifting shadows.” (James 1:17)
Malachi drives the point home when he says, “I, the Lord, do not change.” (Malachi 3:6)
God is a Rock that we can always depend upon. We can rely on Him always being there and always being who He is - the same yesterday, today and forever.
What does that mean to us? God is the only thing in your life that will never, ever change. Let that be reflected in your prayers to Him today.
