The Measure Of A Church - Introduction
People often ask me about their church. They know that something is not right but they don’t know what it is. The truth of the matter is this: not every church is a good one. I can’t tell you how distressing it is to hear people say things like, “It doesn’t matter what church you go to as long as you are going to one.”
That’s like saying. “It doesn’t matter what road you take as long as you are driving.” Thats a crazy approach to life. Some roads are unpaved and dangerous, some are dead ends and there are some roads that will take you right off a cliff. Not every road leads to the same place.
It’s the same with churches. Not every place that calls itself a church is a real church. So, how do you know? How can you tell if your church is on the right track?
A few years ago, I sat down with a young lady and talked to her about her relationship with a man. She was involved in a toxic relationship and couldn’t see it. When she asked me how to know if he was the right guy for her, I said, “Does he lead you closer to God or keep you from Him?”
She didn’t answer for a minute and then admitted what we both already knew. She was drifting further away from God. See the problem?
Over the next couple of weeks, I’m going to give you a checklist of things to help you measure your own church. I’m not here to judge or condemn but I am here to tell you the truth about what God says about His church. You will learn what God wants from a church. That’s a great place to start, isn’t it?

1 Corinthians 3:9
“For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.”
