The Love Of God - Part 2

With this being Christmas week, the first “love” verse we should talk about should be a verse about Jesus being born, right? What could be better suited for that than the single most popular verse in the entire Bible? More people know this verse than any other.

John 3:16

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”

So, how is that connected with Christmas? We know that it says God came to earth, but while that is incredible enough, let’s consider HOW He came to earth.

Have you ever thought about the fact the God could have just showed up one day, made Himself visible to everyone and judged mankind right then and there? But that’s not what He did. Instead, He entered into His creation and became a part of it. Rather than just putting an end to the rebellion of mankind, He chose redemption and reconciliation.

God chose to save us. It would have been so much easier to just wipe the slate clean and end it all, yet He chose to redemption and reconciliation. Why? It works like this:

You and I were created for a reason. We are worshippers. That’s what we were made to do. But, worship requires something: choice. That means that rebellion against God and rejection of Him MUST be a real option. Prayer, obedience and submission are not worship if there is no option to opt out. Love and worship require worshippers who can refuse to participate.

Now, here is the crazy part about love. What I am saying is that rebellion HAD to happen. God knew that from the very beginning.

If you’re not getting it yet, when God created us, He knew that the cross was the only thing that would make real worship possible. That means He nailed Himself to the cross at the exact moment that He created you and I.

The act of creation was literally the greatest act of love the world has ever known. He gave His only Son to allow you to live.
