The Love Of God - Part 10

In the Sermon On The Mount, Jesus taught us to even love those who act like enemies to us and to pray for those who persecute us. All that loving is hard to do! But, we do it because we are Christ's followers and we follow His example. He loves, so we love.

The Love Of God - Part 10

I have met a lot of people who think that they know what love is all about. To them, love is a relationship with another person who feels the same way towards you as you feel about them. While that is certainly a type of love, it's an easy kind of love. Look at what Jesus says about love:

Luke 6:32:

"If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them."

It's easy to love someone who loves you back. Anyone can do that. Jesus taught us to love in a way that stretches our faith and pushes us out of our comfort zone. He told us to love those who are hard to love.

There are people out there who are genuinely difficult to love. They offer nothing in return and they don't appreciate the time and effort that you put into them. But, they are men and women created in the image of God. God loves them and He expects us to do the same.

In the Sermon On The Mount, Jesus taught us to even love those who act like enemies to us and to pray for those who persecute us. All that loving is hard to do! But, we do it because we are Christ's followers and we follow His example. He loves, so we love. In fact, the Bible goes a step further than that. It says that God IS love.

1 John 4:7-8

"Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love."

Now that you have read this series, my challenge is this: I’d like to see you start praying for someone whom you have a hard time loving and ask God to break your heart for them. Ask Him to help you find a way to love that person today.

You will find that there is always something about loving others that makes us better people and draws us closer to God, as well.
