The Love Of God - Introduction

Every year at this time, I write about love. There’s a reason for that. It’s because the idea of love is so important to who God is and what He does that we must stop and take a look at what the Bible has to say about it.

By my count, the Bible talks about love 488 times. Now, the Bible is a very big book but that is a lot, no matter how big the book is. That number tells us that God wants us to think of love when we think about Him.

He’s not very shy about it, either. The Bible doesn’t just drop a few subtle hints about it or beat around the bush. It just comes right out and tells us how important love is. It makes some of the most startling and powerful statements about love that you or I will ever hear or read.

So, here’s what I’d like to do. With Christmas upon us and the New Year right around the corner, I’d like to take what I think are the ten most powerful Bible verses about love, and break them down for us as we walk into the New Year.

This world is kind of short on love right now. Politics are toxic, people are unsure about church, the economy is adding stress to our lives, it’s cold out and we’re all a little bit grumpy and tired of things right now. I’m gonna suggest that spending a couple of weeks talking about love can’t hurt anything. Agreed?

So, starting tomorrow morning, let’s get serious about his love thing. We’ll look at the ten most powerful things the Bible has to say about love. That should be sure to brighten our holidays and light a path forward for the New Year.
