The Lord’s Prayer - “Our Father” (Part 2)

Jesus established that He is with us, living among us as one of us. When we talk to God, He tells us to use a personal term of relationship. Jesus is saying that God is not beyond our grasp when we pray. In fact, God desires a relationship of love and affection with us as Our Father.

God chooses to describe His love for us by comparing it to the love that a father has for his child. Think about that for just a minute. God sent His Son to teach us that.

God desires, first and foremost, to be thought of as a Father to His children on the earth! This, Jesus said, is how we should pray. Think of all of us as brothers and sisters and He as Our Father who desires to love us and receive our love in return. This should be in our heart every time we come before God in prayer.

Galatians 4:4-7

“But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son ... that we might receive the adoption as sons. Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, ‘Abba! Father!’ Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.”

Thank Him for that, today. But, God’s love is never meant for us to just take and keep to ourselves. Remember that the person sitting right next to you is His child, too. He loves you both. This idea of family and relationship should be the first thing on our minds when we come to God in prayer.

Your Father in heaven knows your heart and wants to hear your prayers. He also cares for those who are all around you. Pray for them, while you are at it.
