The Joy Of Silence
He was looking for God but He was looking where HE thought God would be. He wasn’t expecting Him to be in the still and quiet silence.

The Joy Of Silence
Is there anything more beautiful than the sound of silence? I’m talking about that still, quiet time when the kids are all in bed, the TV is off and you are alone for the first time of the day.
What do you do with that time? Do you close your eyes and take it in? Do you grab a book and read? Do you begin to open your heart in prayer? Read the Bible?
In Christian circles, we encourage people to create such a time as this. We call it our “Quiet Time.” It’s a time to be alone with God so you can work on your relationship with Him. It’s based on the common practice that Jesus made of going off by Himself to pray and be alone with God. This was quite important to Him.
Matthew 14:23
“After He had sent the crowds away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray; and when it was evening, He was there alone.”
Why this solitude? What do you hope to find there when you are alone? Elijah gives us his answer. He found God.
He was looking for God but He was looking where HE thought God would be. He wasn’t expecting Him to be in the still and quiet silence. That’s where He found God in 1 Kings 19:12-13. It’s not that God wasn’t there the whole time but sometimes God wants us to just clear our schedule, turn off the noise, go into our room and get away from the world so we can focus on Him.
Doing that every day can really make a difference. You’ll learn that God is nearer than you thought.
Try it. You’ll find more there than you might expect.
Psalm 62:1
“My soul waits in silence for God only; from Him is my salvation.”
