The Importance of God’s Word
You and I think of words as a way to communicate or to express ourselves. But God’s Word goes far beyond that—it carries divine power, authority, and life.

The Importance of God’s Word
Well, I think it’s only fair to warn you about something: we’re about to embark on a deep dive into one of my favorite subjects—the Word of God.
My entire understanding of God changed when I finally grasped the true nature of His Word. In fact, my whole spiritual life changed. God’s Word is not just words. It’s far more than that.
You and I think of words as a way to communicate or to express ourselves. But God’s Word goes far beyond that—it carries divine power, authority, and life.
Over the years, I’ve studied the Word and discovered that it possesses both attributes and characteristics that we all would agree on, but we never seem to connect them together to form a complete picture of what His Word really is.
There are 22 attributes of God’s Word and 22 characteristics that flow from them. What’s the difference between the two? Think of an attribute of God’s Word as describing what it is, while a characteristic reveals what it does.
It’s like this: the Bible tells us that God’s Word is pure and eternal. But what difference does that make? Why is purity or eternity important to God’s Word? Those truths become significant only when we understand how His Word worksin our lives—what it does.
That’s why this study is so important. We’re going to take those two lists—what the Word is and what it does—and weave them together in a way that shows how the dual nature of God’s Word gives meaning to our lives, purpose to our faith, and depth to our relationship with Him.
Between now and Thanksgiving, I want to walk with you through what I’ve learned and help you see the incredible depth, width, and breadth of the Word of God.
Buckle in. This journey will open your eyes and change the way you see God.
Psalm 119:130
“The unfolding of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.”
As we go down this road together, ask yourselves this: In what ways has God’s Word already shaped your understanding of who He is? What have you already discovered about the nature and power of Scripture that has shaped your relationship with God?
