The Christ Who Lives in Us — Part 3

“He had to be who He was in order to do what He did. He had to do what He did in order that you might have what He is. We must have what He is, in order to be what He was.”

This very complex statement by Major Ian Thomas leads us to this point: Jesus had to be perfect in order to pay the penalty for our sins through His death and resurrection. So, why did He do that and what does that matter to me? Here’s how Jesus answered that question:

John 10:10

“I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.”

He had to do what He did so that you and I might have life. He IS life. Throughout the Gospel of John, Jesus tells us over and over that He is life. He is the Bread of Life in John 6:35. He is the Resurrection and the Life in John 11:25. In John 14:6, He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

Did you ever ask yourself how you can find purpose and meaning in your life? Here is your answer! We cannot experience real life without encountering the real Jesus. Life comes through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

That’s why He did what He did. He gave His life so that you and I could trade in our meaningless, powerless lives for an abundant life, a life of joy, at peace with God.

Put your purposeless past behind you, ask Jesus to come into your heart and start living your life for Him. That is how the abundant life happens. That’s how we come to have what He is.

More on that tomorrow.
