The Authoritative Word - Infallible And Inerrant

1 Corinthians 1:20

“Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?”

There is a great comfort in knowing that God has spoken with final authority. In a world swimming in opinions, shifting norms, political division and self-appointed experts, the Word of God stands alone as the final and ultimate authority. It does not ask for permission to rule. It simply is the rule.

God’s Word is not a suggestion or a perspective; it is the Creator revealing His will, His character and His Truth. Because it comes from the One who cannot lie, Scripture speaks with a weight unmatched by any earthly voice.

There is no authority as reliable as God’s Word. Man-centered authorities change from one generation to another. They are subjective and their knowledge is limited. Earthly authorities are shaped by emotional whims, personal politics, peer pressure and cultural differences.

Governments, church councils, human reasoning, conscience, tradition—even pastors and theologians can all be wrong. Human beings fail. It is in our nature. A final authority must be above that.

Only Scripture reveals God’s saving truth without error. Christians refer to this as sola Scriptura: Scripture alone. Human opinions may offer good insight. They may be sprinkled with wisdom and may even be good and beneficial. But only the Word of God is completely trustworthy and unfailing.

Only the Bible is divine, perfect, and eternal. Only His Word carries the full weight of God’s voice with it.

Psalm 19:7

“The law of the LORD is perfect, restoring the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.”

The Word of God is our only reliable source of Truth because of its Author—God Himself. That is what makes it so different and special, above all others. As our final and ultimate authority, it judges us—we don’t judge it.

You see, God’s Word is true not because we believe it; it is true because God spoke it.

As the Author and Perfecter of Faith (Heb. 12:2), His Word can be the only True and Ultimate Authority.
