The Amazing Power of Martyrdom

We all know by now about Charlie Kirk, so I want to be clear about something before I go on: Charlie was not killed for his politics. He was the world’s most effective communicator of Truth. He was killed because of jis faith in Jesus. This was not a political assassination—he is a martyr.

Here’s why that matters. As believers, we know something the world does not: you can’t silence God by killing the messenger.

When that young man shot Charlie in front of thousands of students and millions of social media viewers, he sincerely believed he was silencing him.

He didn’t know.

He didn’t know that you can’t silence God’s voice.

He didn’t know that God’s voice grows louder when it is suppressed.

He didn’t know that a bullet doesn’t silence Truth—it gives it a megaphone.

He didn’t know that when you kill the voice that speaks for God, God will not allow His children to die in vain.

My sister once told me about a picture God gave her while she was praying for the martyrs of the faith. She saw each martyr as a small puddle of water. Evil began stomping on each puddle, trying to stamp it out. But every time one was stomped, the puddle was emptied but something amazing happened—the water spread everywhere! It soaked into everything around it. The puddle didn’t die; it multiplied.

That’s what the shooter didn’t know. When believers are persecuted for their faith, the Gospel is proclaimed louder, stronger, and bolder.

He didn’t know that God promised to take what is meant for evil and bring good from it.

For 2,000 years Christians have been martyred for their faith, and with every death the church grows stronger and louder. Charlie’s death is not in vain. It has splashed onto you—it is now part of you. It has already strengthened and emboldened you, and it shouts to the whole world that something is terribly wrong. There is a problem, and it must be fixed.

Now listen carefully: you possess the Gospel. You hold the answer the world is searching for.

What are you going to do about that?
