The Acts Of Worship - Speak (Part 2)
1 Chronicles 16:9
“Speak of all His wonders.”
When we are told to speak of His wonders, or to tell others of them, there is much more to this than just simply sharing our thoughts about God. We are talking about our holy God, here. We’re not just talking about some ordinary thing or an everyday occurrence. We have encountered the Living God and He has placed it in our hearts to tell others what we have seen and heard.
That news cannot simply be a mild statement of facts or of everyday common events. When Elijah faced down Baal and he told the people about God, it came with emotion and a challenge.
1 Kings 18:21
“How long will you hesitate … If the LORD is God, follow Him!”
There is an urgent plea for change and a desperate desire to share an unimaginable truth that can change your life. That is what it means to tell of His wonders. It means to think about it, to meditate on Him and to ponder His ways.
The take away from this little sentence in I Chronicles is this: you can’t just speak about God as if He isn’t a life-changing, all-powerful, sovereign, holy, loving God who is full of grace and mercy. He is God. That demands our worship!
Job 7:11
“Therefore I will not restrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit, I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.”
That means that in all of that anguish and anxiety, even in our very pain and difficulty, we will meditate on God’s goodness and ponder His wonders.
Amen and amen!
