Study The Word (by Justin Vance of Calvary Baptist Church)
The variety of bible questions I get are vast. We get a number of visitors at the church I Pastor here in NE Ohio. There is never a shortage of Bible questions that they have. Some have been in church their whole life, while for others, it may be their first time. Some are easy to answer, while others are complex and even require additional study.
One thing I like to do is ask visitors what qualities they look for when deciding to check out a church. There is a common answer. It isn’t the kid’s ministry, the music, or even the dress. While all of those are certainly important, that is not the biggest thing they are looking for. The number one reason is Bible teaching! People love to ask questions and explore God’s Word for the answer, but they want to make sure they are doing it right.
Many people have asked me if they could talk with me about the lessons or sermons we covered that day. That question is puzzling to me because the answer is obviously, yes. There are people out there that feel they cannot ask Bible questions or even that they are not allowed to ask. It is perplexing.
People are hungry for God’s Word. We as a church need to constantly be improving our discipleship and mentoring programs. Many times, we are quick to share the Gospel with people, but then slow to follow up with solid biblical discipleship. The great commission is not simply about sharing the Gospel, but also a call to constantly be learning, and then teaching all things Jesus commands.
Consider joining a formal discipleship program at your church, or if there is not one, consider starting one. Are you being hungry for God’s Word? Ask the questions, seek the answers. Come taste and see that the Lord is good!
Matthew 28:19-20
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen
