Slow Down

You can’t rush when you are singing a song like that. You become aware that the things of God are different than the things of earth.

Slow Down

I don't know when it happened, but I seem to have become very impatient. I tap my fingers waiting for the microwave and I have a miserable time waiting for anything to download.

I don't remember being like that when I was a kid. Although, I do remember walking behind my grandad one day. I tried to get around him in a hallway and that didn't turn out too well. Who knew that canes could be used as weapons?

But, I digress.

Somewhere, somehow, I learned to rush and hurry. That’s not good news for a pastor who preaches about a God who says, "Be anxious for nothing" and "Who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life?”

God has His own timing for things and I'm going to have to get in sync with that. One of the greatest hymns ever written is Amazing Grace. One of the stanzas from that hymn reads:

"When we've been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun. We've no less days to sing God's praise, than when we first begun."

You can’t rush when you are singing a song like that. You become aware that the things of God are different than the things of earth. God has His own timing and we conform our agendas to His timing, not His to mine.

I’m slowing down, though. Pretty soon, I'll be the old guy saying, "What's your hurry? Sit down and appreciate things a bit."

In fact, that's one reason why I started taking pictures of barns. They represent a slower pace and a different mindset to me. I learned to stop and appreciate something amazing that God has put right in front of me.

So, take a minute to slow down and look around you. God has placed some incredible stuff on this earth for us. Enjoy them while you can! You will not regret it.

Matthew 11:28-30

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Oh ... and SLOW DOWN!!
