Saving The World By Telling The Truth

Two of the most dangerous false truths that we have come to believe are: “You are perfect just the way you are” and you should “Just follow your heart.” These are the 3rd and 4th statements we exposed in our look at the world.

We spend an awful lot of time trying to convince ourselves that we are really terrific. It’s not all that bad to have a positive self image, is it? I mean, we want to recognize that God is good and so is His creation. He created us for a purpose. The problem is that we somehow seem to skip the part about us being sinful enemies of God who are destined for Hell.

Whoa! That seems kind of harsh, doesn’t it? Let’s look at what the Bible says.

1. We all sin. (Romans 3:23)

2. Sin separates us from God. (Isaiah 59:2)

3. Separation from God makes us worldly and hostile to Him. (Romans 8:6-7)

4. That makes us God’s enemies. (James 4:4)

5. As enemies of God, it is impossible to please Him. (Romans 8:8)

Not a good picture, is it? How can our hearts possible lead us out of that? It turns out that we are sick. In fact, we are sicker than you think. Look at these two verse:

Jeremiah 17:9

“The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick.”

Ephesians 2:1

“And you were dead in your trespasses and sins.”

May I suggest that hiding these truths from people harms them? The world, it seems, is mired in sin and we are knee deep in it. We need to be saved.

We, as Christians, have the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus! We possess the very answer that the world needs! Hiding the truth from them is cruel, not kind. But there is a problem.

Tomorrow: You can speak the truth in love all day long but it will always sound like hate speech to those who love the world and hate the truth of God.
