Practice Makes Perfect - Moral Excellence
“...and in your faith, supply moral excellence.” —2 Peter 1:3
Faith is the key to believing in God. Once we come to recognize the reality that there is a God, we have a decision to make. Should we follow Him or turn our backs on Him? If you ever want to make a truly amazing study, read through the Gospel of John and keep track of how people reacted to Jesus when they realized who He was.
Not everyone loved Him and chose to follow Him. Those who rejected Jesus usually hated Him. They set themselves against Him and tried to tear Him down. These were usually leaders who had the most to lose.
Those leaders were tied to their power and saw Jesus as a threat. But there were many, many others who came to a “true knowledge” of Him. The Bible records what happened with those people when they made the decision to commit their lives to Jesus. They changed.
They changed so much that they turned their lives around immediately! They were instantly stricken with the idea that they were now moral creatures who were driven by a love for their fellow man. They became new creatures - morally awakened and broken by a realization of the evilness of their own pasts and driven by a desire to reach out in love to others.
That is describing the church. Moral excellence is how we know the difference between the True Church and the False Church. Morality defines us.
1 Peter 2:12
“Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers, they may because of your good deeds, as they observe them, glorify God in the day of visitation.”
This is what separates us from the world around us. We who are touched by the love of God are now His agents of love to the world. Let that love shine in you and let your new moral excellence show people how God has changed your heart.
Ezekiel 11:19
“And I will give them one heart, and put a new spirit within them. And I will take the heart of stone out of their flesh and give them a heart of flesh.”
