Servants of God Who Almost Gave Up
Moses - I Can’t Carry This Anymore (Numbers 11)
Not all collapses in Scripture are a result of ungodliness. Some are exhausted. Their burdens are simply heavy.
Moses saw miracles most of us could never imagine. He watched God split the Red Sea, rain bread from heaven and shake Sinai with His glory. Yet Numbers 11:14 gives us one of the rawest moments in the Bible. Moses said what many secretly feel:
“I alone am not able to carry all this people, because it is too burdensome for me.”
The people around him constantly demanded more while appreciating very little. Every complaint, crisis and disagreement eventually reached his tent. The weight became too much.
Many of us know that feeling. A mom holding a family together. A pastor carrying everyone’s burdens while silently struggling. Fathers working overtime. Caregivers who never get a day off.
There is something comforting about Moses here. He told God where he was at. God can do far more with honest weakness than pretending.
One of the great dangers in leading is that everyone assumes they can carry unlimited weight. They become emotional pack mules for everybody around them. They are the one others lean and depend on. But think about this: Elijah collapsed, David wept, Paul despaired and Moses reached a limit.
Holiness doesn’t mean never feeling overwhelmed. Moses had begun carrying responsibilities God never intended him to carry alone. So, when God answered, He didn’t say work harder or pray longer. Instead, He shared the burden.
One of the enemy’s greatest lies is if you were really spiritual, you wouldn’t need help. The strongest people don’t carry everything themselves. They are those humble enough to admit when the load has become too heavy. That is why God gives:
family
friendship
church
fellowship
encouragement
shared ministry
In Numbers 11, God noticed Moses before he broke completely. Are one burden away from emotional collapse? Do you smile publicly while running on fumes and feel guilty for being tired?
Let God redistribute the weight. You are not meant to be the savior of everyone around you.
That role is already taken.
