Making The Most Of Life (by Justin Vance of Calvary Baptist Church)
Four years ago today my dad was sitting in a coma at Cleveland Clinic. We were all optimistically waiting for him to wake up, but he never did. Praise God he did, however, wake up in glory with Our Savior. I think I can definitively say that the death of a parent is something we never truly are ready for. If only we had more time.
I saw a picture the other day of my oldest son when he was just born, and although he is only 12, I still wonder where the time went. I know what many of you are already thinking: wait until he has children of his own, or even grandchildren! But I still feel those years have gone by too fast. It seems you fall in love with these kids and yet, before you realize it, that kid is replaced with a slightly older version of himself. You don’t really have time to miss the younger version because you are too busy loving the new one. This process goes on and on until one day the kid grows up and gets a family of his own, and you are stuck wondering where the time had all gone. It wasn’t that long ago that I was that child, and yet I wonder what my dad would think of us kids as we grew up before his very eyes.
Looking at how fast life goes can be a sobering event. Life is a gift from God. We are literally walking miracles. To show we really appreciate this life, we should dedicate it to bringing God glory. Satan however, does not want that for you. He would prefer you to spend your time defeated. He would much rather that we spend time complaining, or only praying for ourselves instead of others. He would much rather we lose focus on how precious our lives really are. A defeated Christian is not always one that is sad or depressed. A defeated Christian is one that does not go about our Father’s business. Life goes by fast, and there are no do-overs. Are you making the most of the time God gives us?
James 4:14
Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
