Jesus: The Deliverer Of Hope - Part 3 of 3

Micah 5:2

“But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Too little to be among the clans of Judah, From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from long ago, From the days of eternity.”

Micah goes even further in describing the Christ-child. He will deliver God’s people, and He will be very much unlike other leaders:

Micah 5:4-5a

“And He will arise and shepherd His flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord His God. And they will remain, because at that time He will be great to the ends of the earth. This One will be our peace...”

Read that last line again.

He will be Peace for us. That’s hope, people. A Deliverer brings hope above all else. This Deliverer will take the violence of this world, the hatred and animosity of this life, the pain of disappointment, the hurt of betrayal, the anger and bitterness of those who don’t know Him, and He will become peace for us. What a hope! What a promise! What a Saviour!

If you read through the Christmas narratives in Matthew and Luke, you will notice something interesting about the angels. Every time an angel appears, they begin by speaking these words: “Fear not.”

Why is that?

It’s because with Jesus as our Lord and Savior we no longer have anything to fear. He is Love, Peace, Joy and Hope.

He will be there for us. This is why we celebrate Christmas the way that we do. Jesus is born ... God is with us!

Luke 2:11

“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.”

That is hope. Hope doesn’t come from castles or banks and it doesn’t come from stores, government buildings or lecture halls. It comes from a tiny manger somewhere in the tiny town of Bethlehem.
