Jesus: The Deliverer Of Hope - Part 2 of 3

Saviors don’t just appear out of nowhere. They aren’t assumed, they aren’t appointed and they aren’t elected. A Savior has to be chosen and sent by the One in authority. That requires someone completely different.

God couldn’t send just anyone to do that. He had to come to us and become that Deliverer Himself. That meant that He had to become one of us. He had to live among us, to experience hunger, to feel desire, to breathe in and out, to suffer pain and anguish, joy and sorrow, love and hope, trust and betrayal and to live a real life and die a real death. All this out of a love for a world that needed a sacrificial deliverance more than anything else.

That’s what the birth of this baby is all about. You and I have hope because that baby was born. His humble birth brought God near to us so that we could draw near to Him.

Hebrews 7:19

“...there is a bringing in of hope through which we draw near to God.”

It’s worth celebrating isn’t it? It’s worth singing a few songs about, and exchanging gifts over, but it’s also worth a deeper understanding.

In the small Old Testament book of Micah, God speaks to His people about the coming Deliverer. Micah was written about 700 years before Christ’s birth.

Micah tells us about the judgments of God, His dealings with the leaders of the nations and the coming deliverance of His people. While doing all of this, Micah reveals some details about the expected Messiah. It is from Micah that we learn that Jesus would be born in Bethlehem.
