Hold On!

Hold On!

As I was sitting in my living room one day, I looked out the window and watched a leaf fall from the tree in my front yard. It caught my attention as I watched it land.

What was so special about a falling leaf? It’s not WHAT happened that caught my attention. The point is WHEN it happened. It was springtime. All the other leaves made their death spirals long before.

What was it about that one leaf that separated itself from all the others? During the fall, and then throughout the winter, every other leaf gave up their holds on their branches. But that one small leaf held on through storms, rain, snow and the winds of winter until the new leaves were ready to sprout.

Jesus talked about people who are like that. Right before His death, He told His disciples what the end of the world would look like. He talked about false teachers, wars and rumors of wars, tribulation, famines, earthquakes, betrayal, persecution. Not a pretty picture, is it? He said that people’s love will grow cold and many will fall away. But, showing why He is the Lord of Hope, He gave this promise:

Matthew 24:13

“But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved.”

There will always be times of trouble and trial but God is still on His throne and in control. He still loves and honors those who hold on and won’t let go. He values that kind of loyalty and tenacity.

It is a tough time for all of us. Many will weaken and they will desert God and His church because they’re not able to trust Him and they don’t get how He works. You have to be spiritually minded to do that.

It’s hardest to see God in the darkness. But, if you keep looking, you’ll find that He is the bright and shining Light that is ready to break through on the other side.

Hold on to that branch! God will be there for you. Trust Him and He will not let you down.

Psalms 119:89-90

“Forever, O LORD, your Word is firmly fixed in the heavens. Your faithfulness endures to all generations...”
