God’s Word Is Love

Revealing the Heart of God in Christ

If Scripture reveals anything, it is this: God loves His people with a steadfast, undeserved, unbreakable love. And Advent is the clearest demonstration of that love. John writes:

1 John 4:9

“By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him.”

This Truth is revealed to us through the Word of God. The Bible has been referred to as God’s love letter to His people. We call it that, not because it flatters us but because it reveals the lengths He has gone to redeem us. By looking to His Word, we discover that God’s love is amazingly powerful and beautiful in that:

God loved the world and gave His Son (John 3:16).

God loved us while we were yet sinners (Rom. 5:8).

God loves with an everlasting love (Jer. 31:3).

Nothing can separate us from His love (Rom. 8:35–39).

Every page of Scripture reveals, anticipates, or celebrates the love of God revealed in Christ. From Genesis’ promise of a Deliverer to Revelation’s promise of a returning King, the story of Scripture is the story of divine love in action.

The manger in Bethlehem is God saying, “I love you enough to come for you.”

The cross is God saying, “I love you enough to die for you.”

The empty tomb is God saying, “I love you enough to give you life forever.”

And the Word of God is how we hear it, believe it, treasure it, and live it.

Scripture declares the love of God and directs our hearts to the Savior who embodies it. If you want to know God’s love, you must find it in His Word.

1 John 4:9-11

By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
