FEATUREDDEVOTIONS

God Is Faithful (by Justin Vance of Calvary Baptist Church)
I always find myself working on vehicles. I am by no means a pro but I have learned enough to get by. When I was 16 I blew the engine in my first truck. With little experience wrenching on vehicles, I decided to change the oil. How hard can it be? Just drain the oil, change the filter,m and put new oil in.
Even though it is a straightforward task, I forgot to check the oil level when I filled it back up. That’s an important detail, as I soon found out. I completed the job and rev’d it up like any 16 year old would. Suddenly there was a “bang”, followed by a knocking noise.
I quickly turned the truck off and went to investigate. “What could it be?”, I thought to myself. While searching, I discovered a brand new hole in the side of my engine.
Not having enough oil in the engine, a rod went through the engine block. I couldn’t believe what just happened. I thought I was doing good by keeping up on maintenance. How could something so small end up being so catastrophic? I was defeated.
For the next 30 days, I learned how to replace a small block V-8. There were many lessons I learned, most importantly was to pay attention to detail, even if it seems small. One missed step during reassembly could mean a lot more work later on.
Our God is also very detail oriented. He is big enough to create the entire universe and yet the Bible tells us He knows the very hairs on our head. Likewise,we are also called to pay attention to details.
Luke 16:10
“He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.”
Jesus teaches us that if a person cannot be faithful in managing the least of things, they cannot be trusted to handle things that are much. Being faithful to God even in the most seemingly minute tasks is critical to our spiritual growth. We serve a God who is in the details. No matter how small the task, whether it's praying or even checking your engine oil, let us use every opportunity that is from God, for God.
