Fruit of the Spirit: Love

In Galatians 5:22-23, Paul presents a list of 9 qualities that all Christians should be exhibiting in their daily lives. These traits are referred to as the Fruits of the Spirit. Every Christian should be living a life that demonstrates these characteristics.

The first characteristic on the list is love. Love is the product of a Christian heart. When we are focused on God (by that I mean when He becomes our life and our goal) love becomes a part of who we are. In fact, Jesus told His Disciples that it was their love that would be their identifying trait.

John 13:35

“By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

How important is love to those who follow God? David said that the loving-kindness of God is better than life itself!

Psalms 63:3

“Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips will praise You.”

If you are a Christian and you’re not able to love others, something is not connecting in your Christian walk. That means it’s time to get your nose into God's Word, get on your knees and ask God to help you live out His love for others.

Love is the fruit of a life lived for Jesus Christ. He IS love. If we are going to call ourselves followers of God, then we MUST learn how to love one another.

Ephesians 5:1-2

"Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you."
