Forgive Me, Lord - Part 1
Sin has a spiritual consequence. It damages our relationship with God. Our relationship with Him is a lot like any other; it needs to be repaired and that doesn’t happen by itself. We have to do something.

Forgive Me, Lord - Part 1
Every one of us has a dilemma that we will face someday. That dilemma looks like this: I am not living like God wants me to but I don’t know how to fix things. That may seem daunting but there are a couple of realities that help us out here. Let’s start with this one:
We are all in the same boat. When I say that, I mean that you are a sinner. But, so am I. In fact, if you look around you right now, wherever you are, you will see nothing but sinners. You see, the Bible tells us that we are all sinners
Romans 3:23
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
Sin has a spiritual consequence. It damages our relationship with God. Our relationship with Him is a lot like any other; it needs to be repaired and that doesn’t happen by itself. We have to do something.
Fortunately, King David gave us a master class on how to deal with our sin. He wrote Psalms 51. Now, I don’t know what your sin issue is but it’s probably not worse than what David did. But, God led him down the path of repentance, forgiveness and restoration and David shares his prayer repentance with us in that chapter of the Bible. It’s possibly the most beautiful prayer ever recorded.
I’d like to say that we are going to go through that prayer line by line and word for word but that’s not going to happen. I would spend weeks there. So, let’s do this instead.
There are seven or eight really amazing and beautiful principles in that prayer that are begging to be mined and explained. Let’s start tomorrow and spend some real quality time looking at the wisdom and heart of what forgiveness and restoration are all about.
Tomorrow: the me, myself and I of repentance. Your homework is to read Psalms 51 overnight. It’s worth it. Trust me.
Psalms 51:1
“Be gracious to me, O God…”
