Faith’s Hall Of Fame: Abraham

Have you ever asked why your prayer has gone unanswered for so long or why you continue praying but there is still no answer? When we pray, we never think of God's answer as being far off. We pray because what we want is urgent.

Jesus would usually heal somebody instantly, but there were some times when it took a while. In Luke 17:11-19, Jesus healed ten lepers but they weren’t healed until they left Him and were on their way to the priests. When He healed a blind man, in Mark 8:22-26, it didn’t happen all at once.

Most people know who Abraham is. We call him the father of our faith. It was from his family line that the Messiah would be born. That family line almost didn't get started even though God promised him that his descendants would be as innumerable s the stars.

Genesis 12:2

"And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great."

Abraham was 75 years old when God said that. You would think that he should get that family started, right? If I were him, I’d think that my wife should be expecting that son any day! Abraham didn't have his son for another 25 years!

Wow! 25 years? Why? I mean, he was already old, and so was his wife. What was God doing? There is really only one answer to that question except this: God values our time in waiting and uses it to build our faith.

God knows when it is best to do something and, when He decides the time is right, nothing can keep Him from doing it.

So, why do we have to wait for some answers to our prayers? Something happens to our faith when we persevere, continuing in prayer and trusting that He knows what is best for us.

God rewards the patience of those who love Him and trust Him. You might even find that He was taking you someplace deeper in your relationship with Him the whole time. That, my friends, is worth the wait. In fact, maybe that is the whole point?

Hebrews 10:36

"For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised."
