Day 13: Beside
Where is the Shepherd leading you to be “beside” stillness right now?

Day 13: Beside
Psalm 23:2 — “He leads me beside quiet waters.”
The word “beside” is an invitation to proximity—to rest in the Shepherd’s nearness. “Beside” is all about closeness.
It suggests the idea of being led to a place right next to something life-giving. The Shepherd doesn’t point to the still waters from a distance; He leads His sheep right up to their edge. There, in that place of quiet reflection, the waters mirror the sky, calm and undisturbed. There is no rushing current to fear. No turbulent waves to unsettle. Just stillness—inviting the sheep to drink deeply and rest.
How often do we race through life, feeling alone in our striving? We chase success, wrestle anxiety or carry burdens that exhaust us. Yet the Shepherd knows. He leads us beside still waters. His presence is the ultimate calm. When chaos swirls around us—conflicts at work, health concerns, relational strain—He draws us near. He positions us beside peace itself.
Think about what it means to be led “beside.” It implies movement with intention. The Shepherd knows the path, the dangers and the places of refreshment. Being “beside” the still waters reminds us that rest is not accidental; it’s a deliberate gift.
In green pastures we lie down because the Shepherd has prepared the spot. Beside still waters we drink because He has led us there. Those truths transform our daily walk. When fear whispers that God is distant, remember “beside.” When weariness tempts you to quit, remember “beside.” The same Shepherd who led David through valleys and shadows walks with you today. Jesus, our Good Shepherd, said, “I am with you always” (Matthew 28:20). He is Emmanuel—God with us.
Where is the Shepherd leading you to be “beside” stillness right now? It may be a quiet moment in prayer, a walk in nature, or simply sitting in His presence amid a busy schedule.
That’s where we must choose to follow Him—in our striving. That’s when we drink from the waters of His Word and presence. Let His nearness restore your soul.
The Shepherd is leading you beside waters that reflect His peace. You are not alone. You are known. You are cared for. You are positioned right where His provision flows.
