Being Blessed

It is in the Bible that we find the concepts of blessings and curses. A blessing is what happens when God is demonstrating His love for you and is with you in your life and work.

In the Book of Psalms, the very first chapter talks about "The Blessed Man". Psalms 1 begins:

Psalms 1:1

"How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!"

In other words, God's blessing has a lot to do with what WE do. We receive the blessing of God when we walk with Him instead of constantly opposing Him in everything that we do.

Now, having said that, understand this; His blessing and His salvation are not the same two things. God's grace is freely given to all who come to Him. Salvation is for all and there is nothing we can do to change that. It is the free gift of God and it is not "earned".

While salvation is the product of what He does, blessings are the result of what we do. His blessing is given as the benefit of walking hand-in-hand with our Maker and getting the most out of the life He has given us.

When we live like that, God is with us. He comes alongside of us and supports us, blessing us as we work. Doors begin to open, attitudes change around us and we live our lives in the Light instead of darkness. We are in His presence and we get a front row seat to watch Him work.

We have a tremendous God who wants to show His amazing love for us. "Draw near to Him", says James, "and He will draw near to you".

Hebrews 11:6

"And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him."
