Be United

Be United (by Justin Vance of Calvary Baptist Church)
It is hard to believe it is almost December already. It has been another busy and eventful year, at least from my perspective. This is the time of year when we can gather with friends, family, and loved ones.
Although many take this time to focus on those closest to them, many others will not have that opportunity this year. Many people will spend the holidays alone for a long list of reasons. Some have family struggles, for others it’s a logistics issue. Either the family is physically too far apart, or there are mobility issues. For others, their closest family members and friends have passed on.
In a world that seeks to divide us, what better time than now to reach out to those who may be alone this holiday season? Can I encourage you this year to make it a point to reach out to those without this year? Some of us from the church went to visit a local nursing home this last week, and when we went to sign in, I couldn’t help but notice that nobody had signed in as a visitor in several days.
As Christians, as followers of God, we know we are not to just show love toward those that are closest to us, but we are called to love all people. It is easy to forget those not in our groups. The world is filled with people that are hurting, and alone.
We have a friend that sticks closer than a brother. What if we made it a point to be a blessing to someone, we don’t know this year? What if we poured out the love of Christ into our communities? To us it may seem small, but to the one in need, it may mean more than the world.
Philippians 2:1-2
If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, Fulfill ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
