Ambition (by Justin Vance of Calvary Baptist Church)

Purpose driven ambition. A phrase that needs to be part of every Christians’ daily routine. Often, we see, especially in new Christians, a fire stirred up inside. They are excited and want to share Jesus and have so many ideas as to how to do it. Then, it doesn’t take long until the honeymoon is over, the shine wears off and ambition fades away. Maybe you have even experienced this issue yourself.

How do we guard against complacency? Purpose driven ambition. This is the idea that ambition is most effective when it's connected to a clear purpose.

During World War 2, an Army Medic named Desomond Doss, a conscientious objector that refused to carry a weapon, became an American hero. Most notably was his action during the Battle of Okinawa where, despite serious injuries to himself (including shrapnel from a grenade that he kicked away and a sniper bullet ripping through his arm) Corporal Doss saved the lives of 50 to 100 infantry men. Every time he would get one to safety, he would turn back and do his best to save one more.

What would cause a man to repeatedly, and consistently, risk everything to do his job? Simply put, Doss was purpose driven.

Every day, prepare yourself to pray by first dwelling on these words: What is my purpose today? If God chose to bless you with another day, there is a purpose. Purpose is the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists. You will find your purpose through prayer and the Word.

Then you we can set daily goals, and watch God work in and through our lives! We do not lose our ambition when we have a clear purpose!

Matthew 7:7-8

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
