A Challenge for Christians: Walking Through the Ten Days of Awe (1)

Between the Feast of Trumpets and the Day of Atonement are the Ten Days of Awe. These feasts were given to Israel as a season of repentance, reflection, and renewal. For the Christian, they also serve as a powerful reminder of the seriousness of sin, the depth of God’s mercy, and the urgency of Christ’s return.

Jesus Himself calls us to “be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect” (Matthew 24:44). So, let’s take this time and use it to grow in our faith and look expectantly towards not only the Day of Atonement but for the very return of Jesus for His church.

You may have noticed that we are already 2 days into this period so here is an 8-day challenge for you during these remaining Days of Awe:

Thursday: Examine Your Heart

Read Psalm 139:23–24 and ask God to search you deeply.

Write down areas of sin or compromise that you have been excusing.

Confess them before God (1 John 1:9), trusting His faithfulness.

Challenge: Fast from one comfort (food, media, or entertainment) for 24 hours as a way to humble yourself before Him.

Friday: Make Peace With Others

Read Matthew 5:23–24 and Romans 12:18.

Ask yourself: “Is there anyone I need to forgive? Anyone I need to seek forgiveness from?”

Take one intentional step toward reconciliation—write a letter, make a call, or begin praying for a softened heart.

Challenge: Commit to praying God’s blessing over someone who has wronged you. Praying for people who have wronged us breaks our heart for them.

Weekend: Renew Your Mind in God’s Word

Read Romans 12:1–2.

Pick one passage of Scripture (Romans 8, Colossians 3, or Hebrews 9) and meditate on it daily.

Ask the Spirit to renew your thinking and realign your desires with God’s.

Challenge: Replace 30 minutes of daily scrolling or TV with time in the Word and prayer.
