8 Things To Be Thankful For - You Are Getting Stronger Every Day

I remember the first time I ever heard someone say these words: “What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger.”

He was joking, of course. My friend was going through a really tough time … again. He gritted his teeth and pushed through another tough trial. It seemed to me that he really suffered more than the average person. But there was something oddly appealing about his faith.

He never really wavered. I mean, he had some serious questions and he and I had many talks about his situation, but he really did endure. In fact, his faith really impacted me. I watched him power through some real tests and he came out of every one of them stronger than he went in.

But, something else happened that I didn’t really realize until much later. My faith increased, too. Somehow, I was stronger than before. How did that happen?

I was privileged to hear Albert Mohler speak a few years ago. He was talking about suffering and was asked why some people suffer. His insight was startling. This is what he said:

“We suffer because He has something good to give you. Now, here is the hard part ... the good He has to give IS NOT ALWAYS FOR YOU. Sometimes, the path He takes us through is so that He can give something good to someone else through us.”

I had not considered that before. That’s just how God works, isn’t it? Only in the Kingdom of God could that happen. It humbles me to know that my trials might actually be for you.

Have you ever taken the time to read 2 Corinthians 4? It might be worth your time to read that chapter again, thinking about it in this new light. It’s amazing what God can do with a few men and women who know how to endure and how to minister to others while they are struggling.

It makes for a rock solid foundation that will uphold you for a lifetime.

2 Corinthians 4:17

“For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison.”
