14 Reasons Jesus Went To The Cross - Forgiveness Of Sins
Something happened between the cross on Friday and the empty two on Sunday. The world became a different place. The world was in darkness and every human being was way down by the burden of their own sins. But all that changed on the cross.
What happened that was so incredible? We can call it a rescue mission if we like. We were rescued, transferred and given a new home! Paul tells us in the book of Colossians.
Colossians 1:13-14
For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
None of that would even be possible if it weren’t for the cross. When Jesus came to earth, He knew what the problem was and what the solution had to be. We were in serious trouble. Our Creator made us to have fellowship with Him but we rebelled in sin and life on earth has never been the same. As the greatest of them hymn says:
I was sinking deep in sin,
Far from the peaceful shore,
Very deeply stained within,
Sinking to rise no more;
But the Master of the sea
Heard my despairing cry,
From the waters lifted me,
Now safe am I.
That’s right! He rescued us and transferred us from the darkness into the light. Isaiah foretold that event hundreds of years before Jesus came to make forgiveness possible:
Isaiah 9:1-2
“But there will be no more gloom for her who was in anguish … He shall make it glorious, by the way of the sea, on the other side of Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles. The people who walk in darkness Will see a great light. Those who live in a dark land,
The Light will shine on them.”
That’s you and me. We were in gloom and the Light has come. The world is a dark place and the light is dim. But the darkness of Friday will soon turn into the brilliant Light of Resurrection Sunday!
That’s just around the corner!
