14 Reasons Jesus Went To The Cross
Resurrection Sunday is 10 days away and it’s time to prepare our hearts. That Day is not like any other day. All of human history has either led up to the Cross or descended from it. It is the apex of the human story.
Jesus knew the importance of cross. That’s why He marched willingly towards it. It was there that He would accomplish the work for which He came. That leads us to this question: What did He accomplish there?
Over the next twelve days, we’re going to take a look at 14 different things that were accomplished by the suffering, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. The first is this: He taught us to love and obey.
In Luke 9:23, Jesus told His disciples that if they truly wanted to be His followers, they would have to “Take up their cross daily.”
They had no idea what that actually meant until they watched Jesus march into Jerusalem, poke His adversaries with a stick and then walk the road to Calvary. He had already told His disciples that He knew He was going to be killed. They watched Him fearlessly walk right up to those who were planning to kill Him and dare them to come and get Him.
He rode into town like a king in a parade, started a riot in the temple, exposed the blatant hypocrisy of those in power and publicly cursed them for their for their corruption, pronouncing judgment on the entire religious system while they all looked on. Then, He willingly went with them to be beaten, scourged, taunted, whipped and crucified.
That same day, He washed the feet of His disciples and told them to love one another above all else and to be faithful. That model of courage, integrity and godliness is the epitome of the Christian walk. His disciples were changed forever by His obedience and they have passed that mission to you and me. We follow Jesus’ model every day that we live and breathe. That is the example He left us.
Mission accomplished.
Philippians 2:8
“…He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”
